Description
Wild-Caught Marine Collagen
Our Marine Collagen is derived from the skins of wild, deep-ocean fish such as cod, haddock and pollock from the North Atlantic and the West Pacific Ocean. The fish is 100% from wild fisheries. Wild-caught fish have no risk of exposure to antibiotics or hormones as occurs with farm-raised animals or fish.
Marine Collagen consists of Type I collagen peptides, which is the most abundant type in the human body and accounts for 80% of collagen in the skin. Type 1 collagen peptides are identical to those found in human skin and bones and also contain high amounts of amino acids to help support ligament, tendon, bone, skin and muscle repair.
Skin Health and Ageing
Collagen is an essential scaffold protein that provides smoothness and suppleness to the skin. However the body’s natural production of this substance declines as we age. From early adulthood, collagen production declines by about 1.0% to 1.5% every year.
The intake of collagen peptides improves the health of skin cells by increasing collagen production and by inhibiting those enzymes that break down skin collagen. These effects improve suppleness and elasticity in the skin.
Our marine collagen has undergone clinical trials. The test was performed with 20 healthy women aged between 40 and 65. The product was taken orally once a day in a 5g dose over 5 weeks. The results showed an improvement of skin moisture by 74.53% after six weeks and by 115.90% after 12 weeks. Determination of the individual wrinkle depth carried out in 5 out of 20 subjects under clinical-dermatological control showed improvement of individual wrinkle depth by 23.57% after 12 weeks.
Our collagen is rich in the amino acids required to build keratin – the protein that makes up hair and nails. Proline, an amino acid found in high amounts in marine collagen peptides, is also the main component of keratin.
Supports Active Lifestyles
Marine collagen is unique due to its high content of amino acids – glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. It is the combination of these amino acids, the length of the peptides and their formation of the actual protein that gives our collagen unique properties such as strength, flexibility and elasticity.
By increasing collagen production, you build a sturdy collagen structure in your body and strengthen connective tissues. The stronger these connective tissues are — joint cartilage, tendons, ligaments — the lower the risk of injuries.
The high amount of protein in our collagen also contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. It is also important in the maintenance of normal bones, thereby supporting an active lifestyle, even in old age.
Numerous studies have shown that a daily intake of 5g of collagen peptides helps to accelerate muscle function recovery and alleviate muscle soreness following strenuous
physical exercise, while also leading to a significant reduction in activity-related
knee joint pain in young, physically-active individuals.
Bioavailability
The marine collagen peptides are produced via mild enzymatic hydrolysis. A production process which is far gentler than the one necessary to obtain bovine or porcine peptides. Additionally, marine collagen is absorbed up to 1.5 times more efficiently* in the body than mammal collagen. Our collagen’s low molecular weight of 3 kDA means that there is faster uptake and transportation of collagen peptides to skin, bones and tendons for the synthesis of new collagen.

Sustainability
The raw material sources are by-products from the fish industry. The deep-sea cold water, wild-caught fish we use are from sustainable fishing stocks. Additionally, renewable energy sources are used, which contributes towards a zero-emission collagen peptide production, therefore a low carbon footprint.
Our marine collagen is unflavoured and has virtually no taste or smell so can easily be incorporated into your diet.

testing procedures
Every batch of product that arrives at our manufacturer warehouse is subject to FTIR testing. This provides us with a chemical fingerprint of the material to confirm the chemical structure of the product is as expected.
For pesticide residues, compliance with Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 is the ensured benchmark and verified by obtaining supplier assurances. The analytical team test any product deemed as high risk for pesticides to ensure they meet EU requirements.
We perform microbiological testing on all powders arriving at our warehouse. We perform further microbiological testing during the approval stage to verify the supplier specification.
As part of authenticity testing, where it is deemed necessary during approval, a product may be sent for C-14 testing. This allows us to effectively check whether a material has been adulterated with a synthetic substance and labelled as a natural product, providing food fraud assurances.
Further contaminants associated with food products and covered under Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 are checked for compliance by our approval team. This includes nitrate, mycotoxins, 3-MCPD, dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), solvents (apart from water), acrylamide, antibiotics, and melamine. Our approval team risk assess whether the material may be at risk and obtain assurances or testing from the manufacturer.
Third Party Testing
We are performing third party testing on selected products to verify and provide assurances to our customers that what is stated on the label is exactly what is in our products. Honesty and transparency are a core part of our values. Few supplement companies invest in this level of testing, but we believe our customers deserve it. It demonstrates that we are completely confident about our products, their ingredients, and their quality.
The third-party testing is carried out by Eurofins, a world-renowned testing company with leading laboratories. They maintain the highest standards in all aspects of their work.
industry accreditations
The quality of our ingredients and the manufacture of our products is absolutely key to our ethos. We choose the companies we work with very carefully and we only use the best manufacturers in the UK for the blending, encapsulation and tubbing of our products. It is important to us that they are regulated and adhere to the highest industry standards. The manufacturers we work with have the accreditations listed below.

The manufacturing facilities we use are also fully GMP certified. GMP covers everything from manufacturing procedures to personnel, premises, equipment, storage and transport – all have to meet exacting standards. The standard defined as GMP are the same principles that underpin pharmaceutical medicine.
We do not cut any corners, if we cannot produce a product adhering to these high standards then, we won't. In this way our customers can have complete confidence that the highest standards have been followed when manufacturing each and every one of our products.

BRC Food 8 - Issue 8 has been developed to specify the food safety, quality and operational criteria that are required to be in a place within a food manufacturing organisation. It aims to fulfil obligations in regard to legal compliance and customer protection.
Issue 8 focuses on the implementation of good manufacturing processes, in particular labelling and packaging. Another key focus is support for quality management systems as well as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) based food safety programmes.
Sedex is home to one of the world’s largest collaborative platform for buyers, suppliers and auditors to store, share and report on information quickly and easily. The platform is used by more than 40,000 members in over 150 countries to manage performance around labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics.

ISO 14001 means having a system in place to help us manage our impact on the environment. This can be through reducing the amount of waste we put into landfill or by reducing the amount of electricity we use. People are also part of the environment and they need to be protected too, through proper health and safety protocol when dealing with products or being safe in the warehouse.

ISO 22000 is an international standard that defines the requirements of a food safety management system covering all organisations in the food chain from “farm to fork”. It is based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) as the main tool for identifying risks and their associated controls.

What's Inside?

Hydrolysed Type 1 Marine Collagen (Fish)
Our collagen is sourced from the skins of wild-caught fish from the North Atlantic and West Pacific Ocean. Natural processes are used to extract gelatin from the raw material. Gelatin contains native collagen and is further processed using enzymatic collagen hydrolysis. This produces small collagen peptides which are easily digested, absorbed and distributed within the body. These peptides are highly bioavailable and bioactive.
FAQs
Are the raw ingredients sustainably sourced?
Yes - the raw material comes from sustainable fisheries from the North Atlantic Ocean and the West Pacific Ocean.
What is the difference between marine collagen and bovine collagen?
Marine Collagen is absorbed more easily than mammal Collagen. Collagen (bovine) contains both Type 1 and Type 3 Collagen where as Marine Collagen contains just Type 1 Collagen. Marine Collagen is particularly good for the skin so this may be preferable if your main reason for buying is to benefit skin, hair and nails. If your main reason for buying is for regeneration/ recovery of joints, tendons, ligaments, etc, then you may prefer to choose bovine Collagen.
What part of the fish does the collagen come from?
The collagen powder is made from the skins of wild, deep-sea ocean fish such as cod, haddock and pollock.
How are fish collagen peptides produced?
Natural processes are used to extract gelatin from the raw material. Gelatin contains native collagen and is further processed using an enzymatic collagen hydrolysis.
Why do you only use wild-caught fish?
Wild-caught fish have no risk of exposure to antibiotics or hormones as can be the case with farm-raised animals or fish.

welcome to lls
Hi, I'm Ben. I founded Love Life Supplements in 2012 with a clear mission - to help as many people as possible achieve optimal health by providing high quality, highly effective nutritional supplements, with nothing unnecessary, unhealthy or 'nasty' added, and manufactured to the highest possible standards in the UK.
I'm a bit of a health freak and was frustrated with the lack high quality supplements on the market, with clear and transparent labelling. I knew we could do better, hence LLS was born.
